Summary:1925-07-31 "Arthur Pugh - 'Trade Union Unity', July 1925" [g0483001.jpg], July 1925 Sir Arthur Pugh (1870-1955) was born at Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire and initially served an apprenticeship on a local farm before moving to an iron and steel works in South Wales. By 1890, he was local secretary of the British Steel Smelters Association. From 1917-1937 he was secretary of the Iron and Steel Trades Confederation. During the 1926 General Strike, he was Chairman both of the TUC General Council and of the Special Industrial Committee (later the Negotiating Committee) which handled most of the TUC negotiations.
